Happy New Year! Usually, at the start of a new year I, like you, maybe, spend some time reliving the past year’s highlights as well as wondering about what the next turn around the sun will bring to one’s life. For me, the highlights of 2012 included the wide variety of successful events I organized, both as a volunteer and for HIGH SPIRITS.
For the Sustainable Business Alliance, I coordinated a May luncheon mixer, a July Workshop on social media, and a well-attended August screening of the engaging film, Fixing the Future. 2012 was about transition for the SBA and as the Event Coordinator, I found it challenging, very educational, inspiring and an ultimately edifying year. As ambassador for the El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce, I helped put on monthly mixers to help boost the local economy of my home town. As a Board member of Friends of El Cerrito Library, I enhanced the big Fall Book Sale by arranging the 2nd annual Books ‘n Brunch which includes live music, coffee and snacks for sale and a children’s activity tent.
In September, HIGH SPIRITS was hired to arrange and coordinate the Grand Opening Party for Song Insurance Agency. The Mayor of El Cerrito came to do the ribbon cutting with the Chamber’s giant scissors, a giant balloon tower greeted guests and the charming house office was filled to capacity.
Some of 2012’s best news came in January when Stege Sanitary District, hired HIGH SPIRITS to help plan and coordinate Stege’s Centennial Celebration which will be in May of this year. The Board’s idea to engage the community resulted in my arranging with E.C. High School Art teachers to have high school students submit original designs for a poster and logo contest. In November, the Stege Board chose a winner whose poster is being used to publicize the Open House. All the students’ works will be displayed publicly in the office and other possibly other venues.
As you may imagine, I’m very excited to be working on the Stege Centennial Celebration. It’s not often you get to celebrate a 100th Birthday of someone or something. The Stege Sanitary District forefathers back in 1913 were determined to set the groundwork for a sanitary system, knowing how their community was rapidly growing. Future posts will offer more details about the big year for Stege.
Next post I’ll talk more about the exciting 2013 lineup for SBA events !
Suffice it to say, that between Stege, SBA, EC Chamber and Friends of EC Library, I think 2013 is going to be a banner year for HIGH SPIRITS Event Planning. I hope you’ll check in with me and the blog often and offer words of encouragement or feedback. It’s always welcome. And I offer you warm wishes for a healthy happy and prosperous new year!
